The Wiemers Oak
Johann & Aalke Wiemers Heritage Site

Early settlers to the New Fountain / Quihi Texas area first established church services beneath a large oak tree. The tree was located in the back yard of Johann and Aalke Wiemers. The new congregation continued to meet under the tree, weather permitting. The New Fountain church was organized under this tree. The location of the tree is approximately 1 mile south of the current site of the New Fountain United Methodist Church. The beautiful tree still stands today.
