STORY BEHIND THE DISH:
All the grandchildren enjoy these cookies.
| INGREDIENTS: | |
| 3/4 cup shortening | 1 tsp baking soda |
| 1
cup brown sugar |
1 tsp cinnamon |
| 1 egg | 1/2 tsp salt |
| 1/4 cup molasses | 1/2 tsp cloves (optional) |
| 1 cup flour | 1 tsp ginger |
DIRECTIONS:
Cream
shortening, add brown sugar and cream thoroughly. Blend
in beaten egg and molasses. Add flour and all dry ingredients. Mix well and
chill dough. Form balls the size of a walnut and dip in sugar. Put unsugared
side on baking sheet. Spritz (sprinkle) each with a few drops of water. Bake
in moderate oven 320 deg F for 12 minutes. Yields 5 dozen cookies.
